The first time I experienced test anxiety was in high school. The pencils scribbling away, the second hand pounding the air like a jackhammer, and people focused in on the test. I looked at words and tried to put them together like a jigsaw puzzle, unsure of what I was reading. Did I even write English?

When I entered into a meditation group in college, the word mindfulness began. I was able to use breathing and inner focus to help narrow my brain from running a million miles a minute.

The problem is that everywhere in every blog lists meditation as the number one way to increase happiness, destress, and live a healthy productive life. BUT NOWHERE does it say how to do it. Is it close your eyes and wait for something to happen? Do I need to read a book before I meditate or watch YouTube videos?

If you have never tried to attempt mindfulness meditation, Headspace will provide you the basic way to ease yourself into meditation. By the way, I have no affiliation with HeadSpace. I downloaded it just to see how well the meditation app works; and it truly is a great one.

How?

A guided, friendly male British voice comes in to help you. He provides you a simple, easy way to meditate along with some really short, easy to understand ways to help clear your mind. His blog also discusses research based information on the importance of mediation.

Let's look at the app with some screenshots I took:

HeadSpace is easily downloadable on your Iphone or Android device. When you open the app, you start with an easy 10 day meditation that can be 1, 5, or 10 mins. I chose 5 minutes. Before your start, you're given a few notes, and sometimes an animated video.

I haven't tried it yet, but there are packs (which are meditations in a certain number of days or as needed throughout the day) to address any concerns you may have such as anxiety, stress, or sleep. There is even meditation packs like grief and loss which can prove highly powerful in healthily coping with your needs.

There is also a cool activity type meditation like walking, running, while you meditate. This something I must try when I am running. So not only do you get your workout in but also get your meditation. Self Care Blog approves where you can get a two for one deal on your self care.

If you also notice in the screenshot below, they have wonderful animations that help you understand the power of meditation, mindfulness, and addressing the scattered brain. In one instance, the animation discusses how to allow thoughts to flow and observe them without trying to chase them down or stop them on a freeway.

Whether you're traveling for business or vacation, the HeadSpace also provides ways to meditate wherever you are. For instance, right before class, I had 5 minutes to meditate in the car, allowing me to approach social anxiety with more openness and calmness. There really is no excuse now to be able to meditate wherever you are!

I'm still using the app after 7 days and it continues to provide me so much clarity, focus, and openness. Especially, for those who have anxiety, this app has made my days of level 8 or 9 anxiety to 4 to 5. There is something about the reminders in the app that during my day when I'm plugging away at work, it send a notification like "try a smile" and see if that links to your meditation.

If you're hearing everything good about meditation, but you're not sure how; this app will teach you and you will benefit the most from it.
